"The purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and advice to the Province on Rural Development Initiatives. This position is responsible for the leadership and management of the day to day activities of the Department relating to programs offered through the Rural Development PEI Secretariat, the Employment Development Agency, and the Seasonal Hiring Centre."

Duties will include:

- developing and leading the implementation of a strategic plan to guide the Department and the provincial government on rural development initiatives;

- consulting with stakeholders on issues relating to rural development;

- coordinating and facilitating Island wide, regional and community forums;

- creating partnerships with other departments, agencies, and governments with a common approach to rural development;

- providing direction and leadership for the administration of the Island Community Fund;

- representing the Department’s role in the implementation of a province wide broadband initiative;

- preparing responses to rural development initiatives for Deputy Minister and Minister;

- providing direction and leadership to the staff in the Rural Development Division;

- providing direction and leadership to government on the development of employment programs such as special projects, job creation, jobs for youth, and rural jobs initiatives;

- providing direction to the Seasonal Hiring Centre and working closely with provincial government departments ensuring a high quality of seasonal hiring service;

- researching and writing Executive Council and Treasury Board Memorandums;

- developing and implementing the division’s annual operating and capital budgets;

- other duties as required.
