Call for papers/Appels de communications : Creating Rural Connections 2012 Conference and Tradeshow

Regions. What are they? Do they matter? How do they affect rural communities in Alberta and across Canada? With the theme “Regional Realities and Approaches” guiding the Creating Rural Connections 2012 Conference and Tradeshow, these and other questions will be explored through keynote speakers, presentations and posters, workshops and discussions, and panel sessions.

Held from October 11 to 13, 2012 at Olds College in Olds, Alberta, the Alberta Rural Development Network is hosting this national conference in partnership with the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation and Olds College.

Throughout three days, the conference will examine how regions impact rural development. Specifically, how are regions defined geographically, culturally, and socially? What opportunities exist if we were to take a regional approach to rural development? What are the challenges? How can we make the most of our regions?

Presentations should focus on rural projects, programs, research, and lessons learned to provide participants with new ideas to adapt and apply to their own work or community. The goal is to present important and relevant information on rural regions that can be used to engage participants in meaningful and action oriented discussion. Presentations must fall into one or more of the following sub-themes:

· Go Big or Go Home – Balancing Regional Costs and Benefits
· Do We Really Suck at Collaboration? – Trust and Reciprocity
· Finding the Silver Lining – Regions as a Resource
· Construction Time! – Collaborative Creation of a Region
